McDermott Oil Beginnings
McDermott Oil Co. was started in 1972 by Ken and Maureen McDermott with one tank wagon truck delivering gas and diesel to area farmers, as well as fuel oil for home heating.
With a singular focus on customer service, 50+ years later we have grown to include multiple trucks delivering gas, diesel, propane and lubricants. We also operate seven convenience stores located throughout Eastern Iowa under the BP and Amoco flags.
Our Story
McDermott Oil Co. is now run by Ken and Maureen’s sons, Jason and Aaron, and we still pride ourselves on providing great service to the community.
We deliver gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, and supporting services to our customers in Dubuque, Jackson, Jones and Delaware counties in Eastern Iowa. We also operate convenience stores in Cascade, Epworth, Dyersville, Earlville, Manchester, and Lamont. All locations are branded either BP or Amoco. Most locations offer Godfather’s Pizza Express and are heavily focused on serving a variety of delicious food offerings.
None of this growth would have been possible without the support of our dedicated team members. We currently employ over 75 people full- and part-time. We take pride that several of our employees finished their careers with us, and we greatly thank all current and past team members for all their efforts over the years.
